Introduction to PID measurement of volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs);
PID (Photoionization detector) can detect very low concentrations (0 to 1000ppm) of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxic gases.
The PID detector ionizes the organic matter by ultraviolet light, and measures the concentration of the gas by detecting the ionized charge and converting it into an electric current. The substances that PID can detect include; Alkanes, alkenes, phenyl ring compounds, organic compounds such as ketones, aldehydes, hydrocarbons and alcohols and inorganic gases such as ammonia.
